Results Are In! The Xylem & Phloem Survey
Initial results are in! The Xylem & Phloem survey about how gardeners behave on the Internet has collected 50 responses so far, and I think these initial results are definitely worth sharing. If you haven't participated in the short survey, please click here to answer a few questions that will help me and others learn about gardeners' online behavior and demographics. Here are some of the interesting results:
- 80% of respondents live in Texas
- 42% of respondents are between the ages of 46 and 55.
- The gardening subjects of most interest to respondents include garden design, seeds and seed starting, organic gardening, tips and tricks, and growing fruits and vegetables.
- Respondents' favorite gardening Web sites include:
- 62% of respondents access the Internet three or four times a day, and 22% are always online.
- 91.9% of respondents have purchased seeds online.
- 73.5% of respondents have purchased garden supplies online.

The most interesting result was the fact that only three respondents could name gardening blogs that they knew about or had visited. In addition to Xylem & Phloem, respondents mentioned www.nativedave.com.
